ONE WEEK TODAY our FREE to enter Summit 26 MTB Classic takes place in Lotts Wood, near Amersham. Conceived by Summit MTB Club as a way of celebrating classic mountain bikes and early race events, it is now open to all riders and bikes.
The Summit 26 MTB Classic is a multi-discipline off-road 'mini enduro' event, primarily for mountain bikes built in the last century and organised by Summit MTB Club on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August, 2015.
Set in the heart of the Chiltern Hills, the inaugural Summit 26 will celebrate the birth of competitive mountain biking in the UK by staging the first ever 'Retro Bash' as the centre piece of the event.
The Summit 26 is aimed at 'retro' off-road bikes built before the year 2000, but Summit MTB is also inviting riders of bikes from this century to take part as well. The entire event is based at the fun and challenging Lotts Wood MTB race course in Hyde Heath, near Amersham, south Buckinghamshire.
The day gets underway at 10.00am on Bank Holiday Monday with a series of led rides for approximately two hours on trails and bridleways around the Chiltern Hills. These rides will be led by local riders that know the best singletrack and trails starting and finishing at Lotts Wood.
All riders will return to Lotts Wood at approximately 12.30pm for a BBQ and refreshments and any last minute bike fettling before the inaugural 'Retro Bash' starts at 14.00. All riders taking part will be divided into two categories according to the age of their bike – either Pre Y2000 or Post Y2000.
The first part will be a tricky trials section which incorporates a penalty loop for those who 'dab' a foot, whilst riders who achieve a clean run will go straight into a one-mile Time Trial on the swoopy trails of a specially selected section of the Lotts Wood MTB circuit. Next comes the slalom section, where riders will ride individually around a newly-built traditional downhill course where speed will only come from supreme handling skills.
The final event of the Retro Bash will be a real crowd pleaser, the two by two hill-climb, where riders will race each other up the final climb on the Lotts Wood course. With heats and a run-off the event will all come down to the ultimate test of rider's climbing skills and raw power. Please bring loud voices and plenty of encouragement for the riders.
At the end of the day around 17.00 they'll be a prize giving with our title-winners crowned champions of the 2015 Summit 26.
There is no on-line or entry requirement before the event, however if you are definitely coming please send us an email to email@example.com and tell us the age of your bike.
All riders must sign-on on the day either before the morning rides or latecomers can register at lunchtime and then just take part in the afternoon's Retro Bash.
